Thematic Field

Journal of Local Public Economics (JLPE)

JLPE provides international space for the analysis and discussion of contributions formulated either in English, French, Portuguese or Spanish, with two main thematic axes. On the one hand, following the coverage of the theoretical evolution of Public Economics derived from a complexity of economic activities of the public sector. And on the other hand, by giving greater status to Local Public Economics, not only because of its relationship with the former, the whole economy and centralisation, but above all because it is both a less explored field to add approaches such as institutional economics, evolutionary economics, and the methodology of the discipline, which take up from another perspective the economic, social and political phenomena of governments and cities by relying on the economic and financial history of the local.

In terms of thematic diversity, the journal covers public finances, decentralisation, efficiency, taxation, indebtedness, transfers, size, industrial regulation, taking up institutional aspects of public bodies where policy and group decisions related to or without efficient economic allocations and their measurement are reflected. It provides an entry point for empirical and interdisciplinary research, but with scientific rigour. It also encourages the use of theoretical and non-theoretical models such as the professional handling of research methodologies, econometrics and the use of data and platforms. It does not impose a preference for equilibrium or non-equilibrium, dynamic or static models. It broadens the spectrum of analysis of the regulation and coordination of sectors from education, health, security, exploring even new areas such as information technology, smart cities, transport quality and the political economy of natural resources and the environment. It also promotes studies of the internal organisation of governments mainly from the perspective of agency, institutional and evolutionary economics to explain their economic growth within the public sector itself and on bodies that decide on the allocation of resources such as congresses, local chambers, NGOs and ministries including security. Of course, work with a purely economic emphasis is welcome.

This journal is a space to publish articles, book reviews, reviews of recently published articles and dossiers by researchers developing knowledge in the field of public economics and local public economics. It is also a space for policy makers in the field of finance and public economics.
